The City of Fort Worth Code Enforcement Department is leasing office space at 2129 W. Broadway Street from property owner, XTO Energy. That means your tax dollars are paying rent to the same company that is polluting your air and destroying your neighborhood.
Coincidentally (?), XTO has a new gas well pad-site right across the street from the Code office. The FW Water Dept. and the Trinity River are only a stone's throw away.
Chesapeake, XTO and the like, combined, are now among the largest property owners in the city and county. And that does not even include the thousands of acres they control via mineral leases. Who knows how many of your tax dollars are going to pay rent on other properties the City leases from gas drillers.
Few people imagined in 2005 just how entwined the City and Barnett Shale methane miners would become. One thing is now clear: The offspring of such a pairing ain't very pretty.
