Citizens of the Shale(s):

The following Pop Quiz is REQUIRED before investing in the Barnett, Marcellus or any other Shale. Do not even consider signing a mineral lease until you have done your homework and can answer the questions satisfactorily.

If you have already signed, put on the Dunce Cap and stand in the corner until the mess you helped create is cleaned up OR, until hell freezes over, whichever comes first.

I have made it easy for you by sending you educational emails for...three...long...years. If you have been paying attention you should already know the answers. Just in case you dozed off (hahaha), I have included some helpful hints.

1) Where do the toxic by-products of urban gas drilling end up? (see burning salt water in Erath County and inside your own body)

2) Who pays the "hidden" costs of their disposal? (see FW Weekly article, below and your own wallet)

3) Do you trust the gas drilling industry to tell you the whole truth? (see Citizens of the Shale TV shows, BSEEC.org and Mayor Mike Moncrief)

4) By signing a mineral lease are you contributing to the problems of others? (see me after class if you have any doubts.)

5) Is it morally acceptable to benefit financially from environmental destruction? (Look into the mirror)

EXTRA CREDIT: If you have already signed a lease, donate 100% of your mineral income to the Nature Conservancy or the Environmental Defense Council. If you have not signed, hold the lease firmly in your two hands, take a deep breath and rip it to shreds.
